The Beginning

I started making my first pebble artworks using stones collected by my children. While they waited for me to come out of the sea with my windsurf, they kept themselves busy on the beach. They gathered shells, sea glass, and all sorts of tiny treasures. And, of course, pebbles. They were so beautiful, I couldn’t just throw them away. One day, as I was admiring them, they began to form unexpected shapes – little sculptures. That’s how my art journey began – cheerful, colorful, sometimes playful, sometimes romantic… with the scent of the sea.

About Me

My name is Rada Lisichka. I was born and live in Burgas - Bulgaria. I graduated from Art High School here, and after that from the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy in Sofia. I love art and especially the handmade art. I also love the sea. I work as an architect in the winter and a windsurfing instructor in the summer. Pebble paintings are the thing that consumes all my free time. Because it's fascinating. Because it's fun to put together the pieces of a nautical puzzle that has no instructions. And it is priceless to see the smile of the people staring at the ordinary pebbles glued to the smooth surface... and the spontaneous "Ah..." when the images come to life before their eyes.

About the Artworks

I adore natural materials. Already at the university, the rule was firmly instilled in us that stone should not be painted. It acts in this way precisely because it is a stone. That’s why my artworks are made with pebbles in their natural state – exactly as they were found on the beach. I do not paint, varnish, polish or treat them in any way other than a simple wash. Those that are smooth and shiny have only been polished by the sea sands while they have been standing at the bottom of the sea. I use acrylic paints for the background. They are best suited for applied techniques as they cover the base from high density fiberboard with the effect of oil paints. Each of these paintings is unique because duplicates are not possible. And each one is special, as it carries a fragment of summer – the best season for collecting memories.

FOREST NYMPH "Getting lost in the woods on a starry night… or in a melody, or in someone’s eyes ... that’s magical, isn’t it? Being lost is where beauty lies."

MOON FOR TWO "In daylight we'll figure out what to do. In the dark we'll just hold on to each other."

STATION PLATFORM "Don't pull stars out of the sky for me, I have a hard time putting them back in their exact places. Describe your home to me, with the most direct routes. Give me a compass and a return ticket."

SHRIMP KINGDOM "You can't see the water here at all. It's so clear..."

…AND LOVE "If you want, come and wander around the sleepy wet town. Let's listen to the rhythm of the purple night sky in the drops. To wrap my arms around your shoulders, supposedly by chance … on the occasion of the rain. To feel how my heart beats …and love. If you want, come."

NO WORDS NEEDED "Don't say anything. I'll guess. No words needed, we'll just feel... a hug that makes everything light up every time you and I meet..."

I WAS GOING TO CATCH IT BUT... "I would lie a lot less if you asked me less questions."

Exhibition "A Fulfilled Fantasy"

Here comes the second book of humorous stories by the talented writer from Burgas, Gergana Stoyanova. The presentation of "Our Love with Brad Pitt" also served as an occasion to showcase my stone paintings to the public once again. And yes, they became illustrations once more — this time not only for the book cover but also for the delightful stories within. The joint presentation of the exhibition "A Fulfilled Fantasy" and the book "Our Love with Brad Pitt" took place at the Peyo Yavorov Regional Library in Burgas on October 31, 2024.

Exhibition "Coffee and Paintings"

Hello friends! After a year of inviting and procrastinating, I finally decided to select some of my stone works for live performance. My friends, who constantly convinced me that the time had come for this, are the main merit for me to participate in this exhibition. I thank them for helping me to show people who don't know about my passion for stone art what I have created in the last 2 years.
